That was too easy.  Did I get you?  No, I'm not pregnant.  But I do have a secret.

Sometimes I wear maternity clothes.

Have you ever shopped the Liz Lange section at Target?  Well you should.  Many of the items pass as non-pregnant lady clothes.  Like the sequined top above for instance.  It's one of the most versatile items in my closet and you would never know it's maternity.  I also like that most of the basic tops are extra long and great for layering.  Sneak a peek next time you're in Target, you might be surprised!

Guess what?  I have another secret.  I totally stole this cute girl's look:

When I saw this watercolor sketch by Jennifer Vallez on The Vault Files this week, my mind instantly went to my new green flats and my old-but-loved F21 striped skirt.  I love that a sweet little art print could provide such inspiration.  There's much more where that came from on Sophie & Lili, Vallez's website.  I want every single one!

How was your weekend?

Ours was great, considering a few unfortunate events, like my Sooners losing at home and my allergies keeping me in bed with a wonky eye all day yesterday. (I'm better now thank goodness!)

Josh and I had a date night and watched the OU game at a restaurant down the road.  Nothing fancy, but we had a blast despite the loss.

I got two (read it, TWO) new pairs of shoes in the mail for the grand price of 40 bucks.  Remember these Steve Madden flats I blogged about last week?  Well, I decided to keep looking and found these on Ebay instead.  Considering the price, they're pretty fabulous.  I'm not sure how long they'll hold up, but I'm willing to take my chances since I'm on a self inflicted tight budget at the moment.  Have I mentioned that I LOVE Ebay?

I dragged Josh to Cafe Evoke, a new coffee shop in our neighborhood.  My latte was the greatest ever, and we had s'mores right there at our table!  Awesomness. 

Finally, I know I mentioned it Friday, but I wanted everyone to see my niece's pretty face.  She looks lovely in her homecoming crown doesn't she? :)

Weekend Wear

Ahhhh, finally another weekend!  I'm so ready to take the next few days to rest up, rejuvenate and relax.  Obviously, I'll be fitting in some shopping as well (duh!), and there's nothing better for easy weekend browsing than a well-worn pair of jeans and Converse.  No other jean fits me better than my Sevens, and this is my favorite broken in pair.  No doubts I'll have these jeans forever!  

On another note, I'm all giddy today after watching my beautiful niece be crowned homecoming queen last night.  One thing is for sure of that one...she's the epitome of class and grace, and I'm so proud to be her aunt!  Congrats Shelby, I love you!

My Favorite Room and DIY Candle Sleeves

Hey everyone! Today I'm stopping by the fabulous Sadie + Stella to share my favorite room.

It's one I've never shared before, so I can't wait for all of you to see!  Here's a peek...

 Speaking of my favorite room... as I was sprucing things up for my guest post, I decided to try my hand at making DIY chandelier candle sleeves. 

This might possibly be the easiest do-it-yourself project known to man,

so listen up 'cause you know you wanna try it!

 

I love the character of the chandelier in my dining room, but the candle sleeves looked a little too formal for my taste.  I picked this festive Michael Miller fabric to loosen up that stuffy feeling and add a little more interest.

I probably could have used the covers that were already in place for my project, but I hated to mess with anything that couldn't be changed.  I found simple white plastic covers at Lowe's for $1 a piece, and they ended up being the perfect solution.

Of course we can't forget the all powerful queen of DIY, Mod Podge.  Oh, Mod, you've got it all sister! 

First, if you're using store bought covers, they'll need to be trimmed to the correct size.  I used a miter saw, but I'm sure strong scissors would also do the trick.  (Just be careful!!)

Make sure your fabric is also trimmed to size, and add one layer of Mod Podge to the outside of the plastic sleeve.  While the Mod Podge is still wet, apply your fabric gradually, smoothing out any bubbles or creases as you go.

Finally, apply two to three coats of Mod Podge to the outside and edges of the fabric.

**NOTE: I made sure that no fabric was peaking over the edge of the plastic, for fear of a fire hazard.

I also double checked that Mod Podge is not flammable, but please be cautious when making things that will be that close to a light bulb.  Safety first! (Says Mom.) **

Aaaand, you're finished!

There's no need to limit yourself to just fabric with this project.  Use scrapbook paper, paint, or anything else that makes you happy.  Go crazy!  Oh, and feel free to tell me about it if you do, 'cause crazy loves company! :)

The Big 0-2

My baby boy is about to turn 2, and I'm still a in a bit of disbelief about it.  How did the last two years fly by so quickly???  Isn't it bittersweet, seeing our babies grow?  I want him to stay my munchkin forever, and yet I can't help but love the magic of watching him discover life, and  I'll never tire of how his sweet little face lights up over cupcakes and balloons.

We had a small family party for him yesterday, with lots of balloons of course, and, since he loves the book If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, I made sure to have plenty of cupcakes as well.  He also loves music of all sorts, and will sing and dance to all of it, so we decided to set up a Just Dance competition on the Wii.

I don't think we could have picked anything better.
He got dowwwwn, that sweetie pie of mine, and had the BEST time.

He also got a new bike (this one that we've heard awesome things about) and helmet, and was so happy to be like his big brother that he wouldn't let us take his helmet off! 

Today we're taking some time to recover from our sugar hangovers and probably do a lot of bike riding.  Hope your weekend was wonderful and your Monday is even better!

I have shoe fever right now, and the shoes above aren't helping matters.  What's a girl on a budget to do?  I'm wishing for both, but at the moment I'll only be able to chose one.  So which will it be, the leopard flats that would elevate even my saddest mama gear, or the berry red heels that would, without a doubt make me feel like one HOT mama?  

By the way, I'm dying over Sole Society right now!!

There should be a law against that many cute shoes in one place.

I wish I could say I'll be wearing this ensemble as I paint the town red tonight, but, my butt will probably be on the couch watching the Katy Perry movie and drinking wine.  Luckily, I have a medium that allows me to assemble outfits for no reason but that I'm simply wishing for a night of fun.

It also gives me an excuse to finally break out my J.Crew jean jacket (thanks for the reminder Michelle!) that I bought probably 12 years ago.  That's what I love about the Crew...as good today as it was then.

I don't doubt some of you have big plans for your weekend, so think of me when you're dancing the night away will you??  Have a beautiful weekend everyone!

I said it before, but I want to reiterate how flipping AWESOME it is that I can blab to and with all of you about silly stuff like covering a table in snakeskin.  And then, you all get as excited about it as I do, and it's like one big giant party and I LOVE it.  Adore it.  Can't get enough.  So thank you.

Recently Loving...

There's lots of love going on around here lately, can you tell?  I've been thrifting and antique shopping up a storm, and have to say I've found some amazing deals.  Those gold rimmed dishes you see above?  I found them at one of my fave thrift stores for a steal.  A ten-bucks-for-the-set kind of steal.

I'm also loving the fact that my hair finally grew long enough for a real life top knot.  I'll be wearing that trend out for sure now.  Josh says he loves my hair up, but I wonder if he'll love it in a top knot every day for the next three years?  Awwww, he hearts me.

I'm hoping you all have been doing some loving lately as well, and that your weekend was wonderful.

I'll go ahead and tell you that this outfit would be entirely inappropriate for me to wear this weekend. Why?  Because it's still freakishly hot here.  But that doesn't mean I can't wish and hope for a chill in the air that allows for layers like these.
And how fun is it to dress up a plain white tee with bits o' gold??  I love these pocket tees from Target that come in tons of colors and have such a flattering fit.  I think I have one in every color!
