gold spray paint, a bamboo table, and furbish pillows

Funny story about this bamboo table...I spotted it at one of my regular thrift store haunts on a Friday, the day before half-off-furniture Saturday.  It was a little beat up, and I knew I'd have to paint it, so I decided to take my chances and wait to get it half-off.   My "vintage paranoia" got the best of me the next morning, and I was for sure the ladies in line with me were there for the same table.  No elbows were thrown, but I might have cast a few questionable glances and split my yoga pants in my rush to the cashier.

It took me a while to get to this project, (months actually, but who's counting?) but in the end it only took a little sanding, a coat of spray primer, and the Montana Gold spray paint I told you about last week.  The color I used is called Goldchrome and it went on like a dream.

I got this close up of the legs so you could see how smooth and shiny it is in person.  I've realized, now that the table is getting every day toddler beatings, that it needs a protective clear coat to keep it shiny and help protect from chips and dings.

And what better way to show off my new table than with the hotness of some Furbish Studio pillows?  Remember these?  I won them in last month's giveaway, and they're every bit as rad as I knew they'd be.

I did realize though, that when a buttload of Furbish pillows arrives at your doorstep, (for free!) you have a moral obligation to make them look their best, so I went straight to this article for inspiration on how to style them.  I think my Kantha throw and Nate Berkus rug make them look like the perfect little pillows they are.  But I'm biased.

I couldn't leave out the last pillow of the bunch, so it's residing on my entry bench for the time being. I'm still deciding on a fabric to re-cover the bench, so for now I have one of my favorite scarves on top to add some color.  I'm pretty sure I won't be making it to that project any time soon, just so you know. ;) I'm also almost positive that I've officially reached my quota of faux bamboo. Will that stop me? Probably not.

Would any of you like a tutorial on spray painting furniture?  I know there are so many of them out there, so I decided I'd just leave you with the pretty after shots instead.  If you'd like a tutorial in the future, let me know.  I can always find something to spray paint y'all!

**Update: I included a list of sources in this follow-up post. **

  9. It's gorgeous! I'm so glad I saw this post today! I just bought a faux bamboo glass topped table at my local thrift shop for $17 last week and have the coat of spray primer on it. I was just getting ready to paint it glossy white, but now that I've seen yours, I MUST do the gold! Quick question for you though, how many cans of paint did it take you? Want to make sure I only have to order once.

    Thanks so much!

    1. Rachel, I almost painted mine white too! I think I love the gold way more though. :) As for the spray paint, definitely get two cans. I only used one, but was wishing I had two when the can ran out. I'll be ordering another can because I've noticed a few spots that could use another spray or two. Good luck and send me a pic of the finished project if you get a chance!

  12. Oh, Emily, it's beautiful! The table, the pillows, everything. What a great find. And I'm right there with you on the faux bamboo. I try not to overdo it, but it's so hard.

I just partially spray painted some IKEA shelves with Rustoleum's Metallic Brass and really like it. The problem? I ran out and no one seems to carry it anymore. Crazy. I ordered 4 cans online though. Good ole internet. Next time, I may have to go with the Montana Gold - it looks amazing!

I was going to paint mine but decided to leave it as-is for a while...yours might make me change my mind! I can't quite tell, is the top of yours glass? Mine is that faux leather look. It's not in the best shape so I need to do something with it- someday.

  45. Hey. I looked for that entry rug on the Ecarpet Gallery and couldn't find it. Can you please let me know what the name of it was? Thanks!

    1. Hi Felicia! The rug I bought was from the vintage section of the Ecarpet Gallery, so, as far as I know, was one-of-a-kind. The type of rug is called Afghan Rizbaft, so if you used that search term on their site or possibly Ebay, you might have some luck finding something similar. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I hope you find a rug you love!
